The more laws and order are made prominent, the more thieves and robbers there will be.

One of the powers most abused under the PATRIOT Act since 2001 has been the use of National Security Letters (NSL). The FBI uses NSLs to compel internet service providers, libraries, banks, and credit reporting companies to turn over sensitive information about their customers and patrons. Using this data, the government can compile vast dossiers about innocent people. Government reports confirm that upwards of 50,000 of these secret record demands go out each year.
While some lower courts have curtailed the use of NSLs, it’s time for Congress to fix its mistake and make sure privacy protections aren’t a patchwork quilt, but the right of all Americans.
Representative Nadler and Flake’s bill will make sure that NSLs are only issued to gather information on someone with some sort of connection to a terrorist and preserves judicial oversight by requiring the government to show that secrecy is needed -- rather than “gagging” NSL recipients and preventing a full and fair defense.
Please contact your Members of Congress right now and tell them it is time to reform the Patriot Act.
