Glenn Greenwald has done an incredible job at his blog and salon radio in investigating the anthrax investigation. It is a shame that the FBI and mainstream media cannot be trusted to deal honestly with the American people when it comes to such important issues as life and death and war and peace. As Glenn says
When you add on to that the magnitude of this case and the ample reasons for error and deceit -- it's the first lethal bioterrorism attack on the U.S., one which, according to the Government itself, originated at a U.S. Government facility, perpetrated by a U.S. Army scientist, that was then used by numerous factions inside the Government and out to ratchet up fear levels and falsely blame Iraq and/or Al Qaeda for the attacks and, thereafter, was blamed on someone who appears to have been completely innocent -- what minimally rational person would be willing to assume that the Government's uncorroborated, unexamined, untested claims are accurate?
In the past week, the FBI began releasing its ‘evidence’ to now convince the American people that it’s Ivins who is responsible for the attack just as it did many years ago but with Hatfill
From Glenn;
“The FBI dumped a large number of uncorroborated conclusions at once on Wednesday, carefully assembled to create the most compelling case they could make, and many people -- as intended -- jumped to proclaim that it was convincing. But the more that case is digested and assessed, the more questions and the more skepticism seem to arise among virtually everyone.”
He continued
“As a result of all of these glaring holes in the FBI's scientific claims -- to say nothing of the even even more obvious holes in its circumstantial claims -- even establishment media organs from across the ideological spectrum agree on one thing: that what the FBI selectively disclosed on Wednesday is -- given the FBI's history, its one-sided disclosures, and the magnitude of this matter -- nowhere near sufficient to conclusively convince a rational person that the FBI's accusations are accurate, and a genuine, independent investigation is therefore necessary:”
Glenn interviewed Rep. Holt (D-NJ)
Rep. Holt said:
Having watched how [the FBI] collected evidence, I don't have a lot of confidence, and I think the burden is on them to satisfy me, and other members of Congress, that they've done this right. . . . The case seems to me at this point to be circumstantial, and again, without briefings from the FBI, it would be presumptuous of me to say. And it would be presumptuous of people in Central New Jersey to breathe a sigh of relief and say: "They got the murderer. He is no longer at-large." The people deserve better re-assurances than what they've been given.
As a result of the interview, I called Rep. Holt’s office and encourage them to have a Congressional investigation
