April 5th 2007 News from The Liberty Coalition

Dear Friends of Liberty,

We are pleased to see the conservatives launch of a new initiative called the American Freedom Agenda. We support this effort fully and are very hopeful in seeing the ten point plan espoused by the AFA turned into legislation and passed quickly by the new congress. We sent out a press release in support of this new effort.

In Liberty,

Luke Ryland of the Wot is it Good 4 political blog talks about the Sibel Edmonds FBI whistleblower case and the ramifications it could have for high level goverment officials.

Ryland tells us that while at the FBI Sibel Edmonds discovered involvement in American Turkish Council(ATC) in heroin smuggling as well as FBI agents handing over documents about investigations to targets of these investigations into the ATC.

Ryland discusses the States Secrets privilege and argues it is being improperly used to silence Edmonds.

In The States:

Vermont was once an independent republic, and it can be one again. We think the time to make that happen is now. Over the past 50 years, the U.S. government has grown too big, too corrupt and too aggressive toward the world, toward its own citizens and toward local democratic institutions. It has abandoned the democratic vision of its founders and eroded Americans' fundamental freedoms.

Monetary Policy:

According to Bergman, terrorism and terrorist financing were known to be part of ‘suspicious activity’ however, and the August 2, 2001 supervisory letter clearly called for scrutiny of suspicious activity, which implies and includes the tracking of terrorism activity and financing. The unanswered question on Bergman’s 40 question Q&A asked why the Board had issued the August 2, 2001 letter

"War on Terror"

This was a trial?

The president should listen to his defense secretary's advice. He should charge the detainees in federal court, where established rules and procedures will give the trials the legitimacy needed to restore the reputation of the United States as a leading proponent of the rule of law. Doing so would focus the world's attention on the alleged crimes of the detainees, rather than the flaws of the system.

Education vs. Schooling:

Parenthetically, for those of you who are interested, it was the authors
of “A Nation at Risk” who convinced Reagan NOT to shut down the Department
of Education…

Rather than forcing all public schools to adopt one model of reform, something that authoritarian countries have done for years, genuine educational reform should encourage local choice on curriculum and instructional strategies grounded in best practices—practices defined as such by teachers, researchers, and professional associations that represent various disciplines
