I gave a talk this weekend (1/26/07) at the EPIC Privacy Conference on 'national security' and civil liberty related issues. I suggested during my talk that we need to reclaim our language from the state who has used it to distort the truth, misrepresent the facts and pollute the mental environment with toxic memes. One thing I recommended was to no longer use the term 'national security' and replace it with the term 'state security'. I suggesed this because the nation is a unique grouping of people who share a similiar heritage, culture and langauge. When one looks at the actual activites of the state versus their proclomations, it is easy to see that they are not interested in protecting the 'nation' but their own power and interests i.e. the state. They want to secure the 'state' not the 'nation'. We have added a new section to the LC site called State Security Industrial Complex to represent this idea and to give space for information exchanges on State Security which includes both private and pubic activities in intelligence, law enforcement, security and military efforts. I have use the term 'corporate state' in various talks of mine which I think most clearly identifies the to close for comfort relationships between the government and private corporate interests. This is especially true as more and more intelligence, security, law enforcement and military activities are outsourced. So, when we discuss state security we are also including private business activities and not just government projects, programs or plans. We are also in the process of putting together a working group to specifically track and attack this complex.
