Tell your Congressman to support the Hinchey-Rohrabacher Amendment!
The Hinchey-Rohrabacher amendment to the State-Science-Justice-Commerce appropriations bill would bar federal funds from wasting taxpayer money by undermining state medical marijuana laws. Right now, 12 states allow its citizens to obtain marijuana to treat a range of diseases. But the federal government is arresting these patients, doctors, and nurses who are using and administering marijuana under state law.
For instance, less than a month after 9/11, dozens of Drug Enforcement Agency officers raided a hospice in Los Angeles; closing down the institution that provided over 1,000 patients suffering from cancer, AIDS and other terminal illnesses with cannabis to ease their pain and nausea. The hospice was licensed under California law and operated with the support of local law enforcement.
Only Congress can correct these abuses. Only Congress can shut down these operations by using their Constitutional power of the purse. Federal law enforcement cannot perform these raids if they don't have the money to do so.
