A state employee posted the Social Security numbers of nearly 3,000 Maryland residents online for weeks, a security breach that experts say raises questions about the way the government guards personal data and whether it needs it in the first place.

Oklahoma Legislature Passes the Firearms Freedom Act

The Oklahoma legislature has passed Senate Bill 1685 (SB1685) the Firearms Freedom Act.  It first passed the State Senate in March by a vote of 39-3 and the House concurred yesterday by a vote of 81-14.

Amazon fights demand for customer records

Amazon.com filed a lawsuit on Monday to fend off a sweeping demand from North Carolina's tax collectors: detailed records including names and addresses of customers and information about exactly what they purchased.

The lawsuit says the demand violates the privacy and First Amendment rights of Amazon's customers. North Carolina's Department of Revenue had ordered the online retailer to provide full details on nearly 50 million purchases made by state residents between 2003 and 2010.

The Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged the existence of three more intelligence analysis systems that appear to include information about the American people, according to documents obtained by the Center for Investigative Reporting.
