Fired federal air marshal loses whistle-blower battle

Fired federal air marshal Robert MacLean is not a whistle-blower and will not be getting his job back, says a long-awaited decision released by the full Merit Systems Protection Board in Washington, D.C., last week. You may recall the “hero or villain” conundrum of MacLean, of Ladera Ranch: In 2003, the air marshal got an alarming alert from the Department of Homeland Security about a possible suicide hijacking plot that resembled 9/11. And just days later, he got a text message from the Transportation Security Administration, saying that overnight missions involving federal air marshals were being canceled for several weeks (to save money on hotel bills).
